Today’s wedding feature is not just your average rustic wedding. It is a rustic wedding in a beautiful massive barn, 21,000 square feet to be exact. If you ever dreamed of a barn wedding you must check out Schmitz Barn. This unique Moose Jaw barn wedding was a photographers dream and Dane Roy Photography got to be there for it all.
The bride, Teneille shares…
Our wedding took place in August and everything about the day was perfect. We had originally booked a park in Moose Jaw for both our ceremony and reception, but ended up changing the venue when RJ’s dad told us about this beautiful, historic barn he had attended an event at while we were still wedding planning. The Schmitz barn was wonderful – it is only a couple km outside of Moose Jaw, had a great open area outside for the ceremony, and a huge, unique space inside for the reception and dance.
Our ceremony was very special to both of us as we decided to write our own vows, as well as included a tree ceremony during which we planted a cherry tree using soil from each of our childhood homes. After the ceremony, we had photos taken while our guests had the option to hang out at the barn and play yard games, which were made by RJ’s brother. Following a BBQ dinner was the program, which included meaningful speeches from our loved ones. Then the party began – I don’t think the dance floor was empty all night, and it was such a wonderful feeling to have all of our family and friends (who came from near and far) together to celebrate with us.
We were able to incorporate many unique and personal touches into the décor and other aspects of our wedding. Our colours were gold, coral, and teal, and we chose to keep the ceremony décor simple, and go for a ‘rustic chic’ look inside the barn. Most of our décor was diy-ed by us with lots of help from family and friends – we made over 150 paper flowers for the centerpieces, created a ribbon backdrop for the head table, and made paper banners for the seating area. Our cake was made by Wild Rose Cakes, which is owned by my cousin, my dad built a rustic arch for our ceremony, and the outdoor area was decorated with beautiful flowers grown by RJ’s mom. For the things we couldn’t DIY, Holly-Would Rentals in Moose Jaw provided us with exceptional rentals and service.
Our wedding day was the fun, laid-back day we had always hoped for.
I am so happy I could share this amazing DIY Moose Jaw barn wedding with you all!
Congratulations, RJ + Teneille!!!
